    Laptop battery life claims mostly worthless
    It's a question every laptop owner has asked at one time or another: how come my batteries don't last as long as the manufacturer claims they will? The answer is amazingly simple. "That's because you're using your laptopacer aspire 3020 battery ," says Tom Merritt, executive editor for CNET TV. He says computer companies "stack the deck" when their do battery life tests. They turn down the brightness, run few applications and stay off the Internet. So what does CNET find when it checks laptop battery life? "It ends up being anywhere from 50 to 80 percent of the claims depending on who is doing the claim." Merritt says Apple's claims tend to be the most accurate.
